Young Chess Champion

Tanitoluwa Adewumi is an 8-year-old boy from Nigeria who lives in New York City, the United States.

In some ways, he is just like other 8-year-old boys.

But in on big way, he is very different.

He's becoming one of the world's most successful young chess players.

Tani and his family moved to the United States in 2017.

They ran away from threats of violence in Nigeria.

At first, they lived in a homeless shelter in New York City.

Tani started learning chess at his public elementary school last year.

He improved very quickly, and in March, he won a big chess tournament.

It was for all students from kindergarten to third grade in New York State.

After he won, many people were impressed with his story.

They paid for his family to have an apartment and a new car.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton even asked to meet him.

Now, Tani is happy about all of his success, but he has an even bigger goal.

In the future, he wants to become one of the best chess players in the world.
