#. 영어회화 | 표현정리 - 처음에는, 애초에, 먼저, ~하는게 처음이다

 

처음에는 / 애초에 / 먼저 / 처음으로 / ~하는게 처음이다 -- 우리가 평소에 사용할 일이 아주 많은 표현들이다. "first"라는 단어를 사용하는 것은 맞는데 정확히 어떻게 사용을 해야 이 다양한 의미와 뉘앙스를 잘 구분해서 말을 할 수 있는지 이번 영상에서 배워봅니다.

 

 

• 처음에는

• At first

 

처음에는 좀 어색했어.

At first, it was a little awkward.  ˈɔːkwəd

It was a little awkward at first.

 

처음에는 좀 어려웠는데 익숙해지고 나니가 괜찮았어. It was a little difficult at first, but it was OK after I got used to it.

At first it was a little hard but it was OK once I got used to it.

 

처음에는 별로 관심이 안갔었어. I wasn't very interested at first.

• 애초에

• In the first place

• to begin with

애초에 오해가 좀 있었던 것 같아요.I think there was some misunderstanding in the first place.I think there was some misunderstanding to begin with.애초에 내가 실수를 했어.I made some mistake(s) in the first place.I made some mistakes to begin with.

애초에 내가 확인을 제대로 안했어 I didn't check properly in the first place / to begin with.

• ˈprɑːpərli  제대로, 적절히

 

내가 애초에 말을 꺼내지 말았어야 했어. I shouldn't have brought it up (mentioned it) in the first place / to begin with.

 

• should + have PP ~ 했어야만 했어

• bring something up  (화제를) 꺼내다 

• mention ˈmenʃn   (말글로 간단히) 말하다, 언급[거론]하다

 

• 먼저

• first 

 

He brought it up first. 걔가 먼저 말을 꺼냈어.He hit me first.  걔가 날 먼저 때렸어.I asked (you) first.  내가 먼저 물어봤잖아.

 

• 처음으로 (~ 하다)

• for the first time

 

그녀를 처음으로 직접 만났어. I met her in person for the first time.I met her for the first time in person.

(I first met her in person. 이라고 쓰면, '우선/일단 걔를 직접 만났어.'라고 해석될 수 있음. 주의 요망.

그러나, We first met in high school. 이라고 쓰면 '우리는 고등학교에서 처음 만났어.'라고 예외적으로 사용할 수 있음. 설명이 복잡하므로 긴 설명은 x.)

 

걔네 사귀기 시작하고 나서 처음으로 다퉜어. They had an argument (fight) for the first time since they stared going out. (dating / seeing each other.)They had their first argument(fight) since they stared going out.

나 운전면허증 따고 나서 처음으로 혼자서 운전했어. - I drove by myself for the first time since I got my driver's license.

• ~를 하는 것이 처음이다.

• It's + my + first time + ing.

• It's + my + first time + to + <verb>

• .... be the first time + full sentence

 

무대에 서는 게 처음이었어.It was my first time + going on stage. (무대에 서 있던 것을 말하는 것임.)It was my first time + to go on stage. (무대에 서 있기 전의 시점에서 말한 것임)It is the first time + I'm traveling by myself.- 미래형을 표현하고자 할 경우에는, 한쪽에만 미래형을 써야함.
