#. Copies of Korean Royal Books Found in France

Some books of historical interest were recently found in France.

The French books are over 100 years old and contain drawings of Korean royal events from the Joseon Dynasty.

The books were discovered by the researchers at the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation.

They said the artifacts were located in the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts in Paris.

The two sets of books contain sketches in colored pencils and notes in French and Chinese characters.

Based on the notes, the researchers deduced that the books were made by a French man named Henry Chevalier between 1899 and 1906.

In the books, Chevalier made rough copies of "uigwe," or Korean manuscripts that depict important royal events.

He reproduced two books that showed the respective state funerals of King Heonjong and Queen Hyohyun.

The researchers said Chevalier likely copied the original "uigwe" manuscripts, which were stolen by French forces in 1866.

The manuscripts were then returned by France to Korea in 2011.

"This is the first case of the manuscripts being studied by a French person,"

"Therefore, they are rare and precious records."
