Starting this semester, a specialized high school is opening in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province.

It is Korea's first school for developing future firefighters.

The Ministry of Education designates some schools as "meister high schools."

Their purpose is to train students and prepare them to enter a specialized labor force.

Already, there are meister high schools for various fields, including engineering, robotics, and shipbuilding.

Yeongwol is the location for the latest meister high school.

The government transformed an existing high school into one for firefighters.

It has built training facilities to develop the skills needed for firefighting.

A total of 85 students from across the nation were selected for the inaugural freshmen class.

They will study the general subjects and courses required for all high school students.

In addition, they will take specialized courses on firefighting safety and management.

By studying at the specialized school, students will be better qualified to apply for different licenses.

This will also help them achieve their dream of becoming firefighters after they graduate.
