### Longest Torta Sandwich

 

Torta is a sandwich.

It's a traditional food in Mexico.

On July 31, a special festival took place in Mexico.

It was a torta festival.

There, Mexican chefs made the longest torta of their country.

It was 72 meters long.

It took only 3 minutes to make.

They put sausages, lettuce, and onions.

Then, they shared it with people at the festival.

"This sandwich is really delicious," one woman said.

### Brave Rescue Dog

 

In July, a middle school student went missing.

She was somewhere in a mountain.

Many rescuers searched the mountain.

A rescue dog helped them.

After 10 days, they finally found the student!

Surprisingly, the rescue dog found her.

It smelled the girl's scent.

"We are very happy to find the student," one officer said.

"Also, we are very proud of our rescue dog."

@ go missing 행방 불명이 되다   A group of soldiers go missing for two years.  There is a similar service for senile elderly citizens who go missing.

@ scent sent 향기, 향내 The air was filled with the scent of wild flowers.  냄새로 찾아내다  The dog scented a rabbit.

### World Santa Claus Congress

 

Every July, many Santas have a big meeting.

It's called the World Santa Claus Congress.

This year, about 150 Santa Clauses gathered in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Santa's Wives and elves came, too.

At the congress, the santas talked about their jobs.

They discussed gifts for kids.

Then, there was a parade.

The Santas spread Christmas cheer.

"I look forward to meeting many kids in December," one Santa said.

### Trash Fun

 

Usually, we don't enjoy picking up trash.

But some people combined it with a sport.

So now, picking up trash is a lot more fun!

• Trash Fishing

Mark Nardone and his father Tom live in Detroit, the United States.

They wanted to clean up the Detroit River.

So, they invented trash fishing.

To play this game, you need a boat, trash tongs, and a trash bag.

It's more fun to catch trash than real fish.

Now, they host trash fishing contests.

This way, they can clean up the river.

• Plogging

Plogging is a fitness trend from Sweden.

The word comes from "plocka upp" and "jogging."

"Plocka upp" means "pick up" in Swedish.

To play, all you need are running shoes and a trash bag.

Then, go for a jog and pick up any trash you see.

Plogging is popular in many countries.

It's good for both your health and the environment.

### A Lake in Halla Mountain

 

Halla Mountain is the highest peak in Jeju Island.

It's an inactive volcano.

There is a crater at the top of the mountain.

It's named Baengnokdam.

Many tourists climb up the mountain to see the famous crater.

A long time ago, the crater was formed by an explosion of magma.

Now, it looks like a big bowl.

Usually, the crater has little water.

But a big storm hit Jeju Island in July. There was heavy rain, too.

So, the crater was filled with a lot of water.

It became a beautiful lake.
