Broken Bones Get Better Casts

Design company Cast21 is helping people heal from broken bones.

In invented a breathable, colorful, waterproof cast of hardened liquid resin.

Traditional plaster casts restrict airflow.

They are difficult to wash, so they can be smelly and lead to infection.

After the bone heals, the casts even require a circular saw for removal.

The resin cast solves those problems.

It looks like a cage with spaces where air reaches the skin.

It is waterproof, so the patient can wash the limb.

Furthermore, it is a breeze to apply and remove this innovative cast.

First, the doctor fits the limb with a mold of the cast and fills the mold with liquid resins that harden.

Weeks later, the doctor removes the cast with scissors.

Currently, the resin cast is available only for arms.

However, the company is developing cast for other body parts.
