Korea Struggles With Fine Dust

Fine dust is one of Korea's biggest problems.

The problem is getting worse every year, so the government is trying to do something about it.

In March, the government made a fine dust committee.

The head of the committee is former U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Ban and a group of experts will study the effects of fine dust.

Then, they will suggest ways to improve Korea's air quality.

"This problem will not be solved quickly," Ban Ki-moon said.

"We will look for long-term solutions."

Besides the committee, there are other government projects to solve the fine dust problem.

In one project, some scientists are trying to make artificial rain to wash away fine dust.

In other project, scientists want to build giant air purifiers for cities.

Unfortunately, the fine dust problem is very complex.

Some of the pollution is due to Chinese factories, which use a lot of coal.

But Korea's neighbor continues to deny this.

Experts say Koreans are partly to blame for the problem, too.

The nation has many cars and factories that make air pollution.

It must reduce this number to have cleaner air.
