Sesame Street Turns 50

Elmo, COokie Monster, and even Oscar the Grouch have something amazing to celebrate this year.

The popular TV show "Sesame Street" that these puppets all star in is turning 50 years old.

"Sesame Street" is an American educational TV program.

It is aimed particularly at young children between the ages of 3 and 5.

It teaches these children about important concepts, including numbers, letters, friendship, and diversity.

It includes a wide range of interesting stories and short skits.

These are performed by human actors as well as a cast of lovable puppets called the Muppet's.

Up until 2016, the show aired exclusively on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) TV channel.

This is a non-profit channel that gets its money from government grants and donations from viewers.

As a result, it does not include any advertisements or commercials.

The goal of the show has always been to prepare young children for school, especially those who come from less wealthy backgrounds.

The first episode of the show aired on November 10, 1969.

Since then, it has educated and entertained millions of children in the United States and around the world.

Over the years, studies have shown that "Sesame Street" helps to prepare preschoolers academically and socially for school.

Studies have also demonstrated that people who have watched "Sesame Street" are more likely to do better in class and at work.

To celebrate its 50th birthday, the TV show is releasing new merchandise, including toys and clothes.

The characters are also visiting 10 special locations throughout the United States
