Drones to Fly in Korea by 2025

In the future, it may be commonplace to see drones flying around the nation.

On October 17, the government announced its roadmap for establishing drone transportation systems in Korea by 2025.

The roadmap was made public by Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon during a meeting in Seoul.

According to the plan, the government will work to gradually introduce the use of drones to Korea, ranging from small delivery drones to large drone taxis and ambulances.

The announced roadmap is divided into three stages, with the first stage running from now until 2020.

During this time, the government will create guidelines and facilities to make drone flying safe and secure.

It will also make sure that anti-drone systems are in place in case of emergency.

In the second stage from 2021 to 2024, the necessary laws and standards for flying drones will be discussed and instituted.

Also, the government will define the regions and routes where different types of drone flying will be permitted.

Meanwhile, drone experts will continue to test drones in different areas on a limited basis.

They will gradually expand the scope of their test flights to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

When all the preparations and tests are completed, various types of drones will be legally allowed to fly nationwide.

Small delivery drones may be available in the countryside as early as 2022, while drone taxis and delivery drones for medicine are expected to fly commercially by 2025.

The government says it has great hopes for the drone industry.

If successful, the plan could add 21 trillion won and 170,000 jobs to the national economy by 2028.
