Samsung Fixes Smartphone Security Problem

A serious security problem was found on the latest model of Samsung's smartphone.

Luckily, the glitch was quickly fixed by the company through a software update.

The critical issue was first discovered by a man in the United Kingdom.

His wife had used the fingerprint recognition feature to lock her Galaxy S10 smartphone.

However, he said he also unlocked it with his fingerprint, which was not registered to the device.

The man was able to bypass the security system rather easily.

The smartphone screen was covered with a silicone protector.

When he pressed his finger on the screen through this clear silicone cover, his fingerprint was recognized as valid by the phone.

The problem was serious because the fingerprint recognition feature is used to secure private information on smartphones.

Due to its convenience, many people use it in place of passwords.

Immediately after the glitch was found, Samsung investigated the problem.

It said the smartphone system recognized the pattern on the surface of the screen protector as part of the fingerprint.

"Unofficial, scratched, or dirty screen protectors may cause the fingerprint sensor to malfunction,"

Then, a week later, Samsung announced a software update that would fix the error.

So, users should make sure to install the latest software.
