Ginkgo trees in autumn are one of the most beautiful sights of the season.

However, the seeds of female ginkgo trees give off a foul odor that bothers many people.

Some cities have decided to do something about this situation.

City governments in Suwon and Gheongju have begun removing female ginkgo trees from the streets.

These female trees will be replaced with other trees including male ginkgo trees, which do not have seeds that give off the offensive smell.

Some female ginkgo trees will be kept if they add value to the city in other ways.

However, the seeds from the trees will be collected before they fall to the ground and spread their odor.

"We will do our best to reduce the inconvenience of our citizens," one Suwon city official said.
