"Trot" is a unique Korean music genre that mixes Eastern and Western sensibilities.

It has been around since 1930, but until recently, it was thought to be for older listeners only.

However, trot music is currently enjoying a comeback.

The trend began with an audition program called "Miss Trot, " which aired in 2019 on TV Chosun.

The unique audition program successfully attracted both young and old viewers.

Song Ga-in, the winner of the show, became one of the hottest stars in Korea.

Then in early January, "Mr. Trot,"Trot, " the male version of "Miss Trot, " was launched on the same TV channel.

The show received high ratings and kept the trot music trend alive.

Its final episode, which aired on March 12, reached 35.7 percent, the highest ever for a cable channel program.

The winner Im Young-woong is becoming as popular as Song Ga-in.

Meanwhile, comedian and MC Yoo Jae-suk also contributed to introducing trot music to a general audience.

In late 2019, he made his debut as a trot singer on a variety show.

Using the stage name Yoo Sanseul, he performed concerts and even released a hit album.

Hoping for similar success as "Miss Trot" and "Mr. Trot," other broadcast networks have launched their own TV shows.

For instance, "K-trot in Town" on SBS takes popular trot singers to foreign countries.

They perform the uniquely Korean music style in front of foreign audiences.

Music experts say people are attracted to the memorable lyrics and catchy melodies of trot music.

So, they do not expect the recent trend to cool down anytime soon.
