Do you like to look up and gaze at the night sky?

According to scientists, we will have several celestial events to look forward to in 2020.

According to the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), the nation will enjoy three penumbral Lunar eclipses this year.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the sun and the moon.

This blocks some or all of the sun's rays that would normally illuminate the moon's surface.

Sometimes, the sun, the Earth, and the moon line up perfectly, causing a total lunar eclipse.

More often than not, however, the alignment is imperfect, and the moon is covered only by the Earth's outer shadow, which is called the penumbra.

During such a penumbral lunar eclipse, the moon may only darken slightly.

It may seem like there is a shadow cast over the satellite's surface.

Regardless, Koreans will get the opportunity to enjoy three penumbral lunar eclipses in 2020.

The first of these eclipses took place in January, and according to KASI, two more are expected to take place in June and November.

Other Celestial Events

On top of the lunar eclipses, there will be two meteor showers that will be visible from Korea.

The annual events will take place in August and December.

Furthermore, a partial solar eclipse will be able to be viewed in Korea on June 21.

The moon will come between the Earth and the sun, blocking a chunk of the sun from our sight.
