Gyeonggi Launches Air Ambulance

On August 31, Gyeonggi Province introduced a new air ambulance helicopter.

It is able to transport patients to hospitals in a short amount of time.

The emergency aircraft is nicknamed "Doctor Helicopter" in Korean.

It is outfitted with various medical equipment so that patients can be treated promptly.

This is Korea's seventh air ambulance helicopter, but it is the first to operate in Gyeonggi Province.

Until now, gyeonggi hospitals relied on rescue helicopters from fire departments during emergencies.

With the air ambulance, the survival rate of patients is expected to increase.

Six rescue workers are assigned to the new helicopter, which is on call 24 hours a day.

It will fly to and from 1,700 helipads at different places, including schoolyards, across the province.

The new helicopter will even be used during mountain or marine rescue missions.

"The helicopter may be noisy when it flies through a neighborhood during on a mission," said Lee Jae-myoung, the governor of Gyeonggi Province.

"But I think citizens will put up with the temporary inconvenience.
