• "겨우/간신히 ---을 하다" barely do something

I barely got up this morning.

I barely made it to work on time today.

I barely passed the exam the second time.

 

• "(거의) ~을 하지 못할뻔하다" almost couldn't do something

I almost couldn't get up this morning.

= I almost slept late this morning.

I almost couldn't make it to work on time today.

= I was almost late to work today.

I was almost late to the meeting today.

I almost couldn't pass the exam the second time.

= I almost failed the exam again the second time.

I didn't make it to the meeting on time.

"make it to <어디>"라는 표현 자체에 "시간에 맞춰"라는 의미가 포함돼 있는 것은 아닙니다.

그래서 영상 예문에서 "make it to <어디> + on time"이라고 하는 것입니다.

"make it to <어디>"라고만 하면 "<어디>에 무사히(성공적으로) 가다(도착하다)"라는 의미이고 여기에 "on time"이라는 표현을 같이 사용했을 때 "시간에 맞춰 어디에 도착하다"라는 의미가 됩니다.
