우리가 '찾다'를 영어로 말할 때 별 생각 없이 'find'라고 표현하는 경우가 많지만 이건 너무나도 큰 오해이며 의미전달이 잘못될 가능성이 굉장히 높다.  

'찾다'라는 말을 영어로 할 때는 3가지를 고려해야 된다 -

 

1. 발견의 순간을 말하는 '찾다'

2. 찾는 과정을 말하는 '찾다'

3. '수색/탐색'을 말하는 '찾다'

여기에 추가로

(인터넷으로) "검색하다/검색을 하다"라는 표현은 어떻게 하는 것이 정확하고 자연스러운지도 배워보자.

 

1. Find : 발견하는 그 순간 (일시적.순간적)

 

I found my keys.

2. 뭔가를 찾는과정 : look for 진행형으로 사용

 

I am looking my notes.

I am finding my notes (x)

3. Search : 뒤지다. 수색하다. (공간.장소)

 

I searched everywhere and I still can't find my keys.

Yeah. I searched my room, I searched  my pockets...

I've been looking for them for two hours... I can't find them!

 

Search the internet.

 

Search the restaurant 식당을 검색하다 (X) 는 그식당은 뒤져봤다는 뜻.

I searched the internet and I found some information about the brand.

I searched the information (x) 정보를 뒤지는건 아니니깐

I looked for some information online / on the internet.
