A Korean recently made the list of the world's 100 most inspiring and influential women, compiled by the British television channel BBC.
The women was Lee Soo-jung, a first-generation forensic psychologist and criminal profiler of the nation.
"As a forensic psychologist, I want the future to be a safe place for my children," Lee told BBC.
Lee has worked as a forensic psychologist for 20 years.
During her career, she has worked on many high-profile criminal cases.
She has also helped to make changes in Korea's legal system, such as introducing an anti-stalking bill to protect women.
Lee currently serves as a professor of forensic psychology at Kyonggi University.
She is also the author of seven books on the subject.
@ What is a forensic Psychologist?
Forensic psychologists learn about the inner workings of criminals and what motivates them to commit crimes.
Then, they play a significant role in understanding these behaviors and preventing crimes.
Forensic psychologists often work as criminal profilers and help the police capture criminals.
They use their knowledge to narrow down the list of possible suspects or provide a motive for a crime.
In addition, these professionals act as expert witnesses during criminal trials.
In this way, they can have a great influence on a criminal's sentencing.
They can also aid in setting civil matters, including lawsuits, child custody disputes, and insurance claims.
Forensic psychology is a combination of law and psychology.
So, students who wish to pursue a career in this field should seek a university major in psychology with a minor in criminal justice or criminology.
Aspiring forensic psychologists must have an inquisitive and methodical personality.
As the same time, they must be willing to handle difficult and sometimes extreme situations.
