Korean Seaweed Goes Abroad

In 2019, Korea's seafood export set a new sales record.

It was led by the strong performance of seaweed items, which topped the export list.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said that Korea exported seafood products worth 25 billion dollars last year.

That is equal to about 2.9 trillion won and an increase of 5.8 percent compared to the previous year.

Among the exported products, seaweed especially saw a significant increase.

In 2010, the amount of seaweed export was about 100 million dollars.

In 10 years, that number grew by nearly six times, reaching 580 million dollars in 2019.

In recent years, Korean seaweed has become a popular snack in many countries.

People who are looking to eat healthier are turning to Korean seaweed chips.
