Thumberg Named Time's Person of the Year

In December of every year, Time Magazine in the United States selects its Person of the Year.

In 2019, the magazine chose 16-year-old activist Greta Thunberg for the honor.

Edward Felsenthal, the magazine's editor-in-chief, said Thunberg deserved the honor because of her work to raise awareness of global warming.

"She was a solo protester with a hand-painted sign 14 months ago," Felsenthal said.

"She now led millions of people around the world to act on behalf of the planet."

Thunberg once said the climate movement does not need more awards.

Instead, she explained, it needs people in power of listen to science.

However, Thunberg thanked Time Magazine for the honor, and she dedicated her win to other climate activists.

In 1927, Time Magazine started its annual tradition of choosing a Person of the Year.

The recipient is also put on the front cover of a special print edition.
