as 의 본질 

  • identicalness 동등함 a. identical 동일한, 똑같은
  • same 같음

 

I’m tall. 

I’m taller. 비교대상이 존재함

I’m taller than him. 비교대상과 차이가 존재함

I’m as tall as him. 비교대상 있음, 차이가 존재하지 않음.

 

It’s expensive.

It’s more expensive than that.

It’s as expensive as that.

He’s as clever as her.

 

@ not as .. as : 차이가 난다는 것을 표현가능

 

I’m not as tall as him.

It’s not as expensive as that.

The weather is not as hot as yesterday.

He isn’t as clever as her.

 

생각보다 작네

This is not as big as I thought / expected.

색이 생각보다 어둡네

The color is not as bright as I thought / expected.

이 라면은 그들이 말한것 처럼 맵지 않네

This 라면 is not as spicy as they said.

 

@ big, bright, spicy 등 특성을 나타내는 형용사가 as .. as 사이에 옴

 

not as .. as 어떤 특성이 차이가 난다

as .. as  어떤 특성이 같다.

 

This is a very famous restaurant.

* as usual 평소처럼 , as always 언제나처럼

A: Hey, how are you?

B: (I’m) good as usual / always.

B: I came as fast as I could. 최대한 빨리 온거야 = 내가 가능한 만큼 빠르게 왔어

 

@ as soon as possible 가능한 한 빨리 / 가능한 만큼 곧 = ASAP

 

A: Can I talk to you for a minute?

B: I'm sorry. Now, I’m in the middle of a meeting.

A: Please call me back as soon as possible.

 

A: Is it done?
B: Not yet. I’m working on it.

A: Please finish it as soon as possible. We’re in hurry.
