"티뷔를 보거나 영화/음악 감상이나 친구들을 만나는 것과 같이 일반적으로 누구나 더 많이 하고 싶어하는 것들이 있다. 우리가 이런 것들을 비록 많이 즐겨하지만 오락을 위한 것이지 취미로 보기에는 어렵다는 느낌이 든다. 내가 보기에 취미라는 것은 인라인 스케이트나 마술쇼처럼 시간이 지나면서 더 잘하게 될 수 있는 것이거나, 글쎄요, 와인 테이스팅이나 문학읽기처럼 어떤 지식이나 무엇에 대한 이해가 더 깊어질 수 있는 것이 아닐까, 아니, 그런 것이어야 한다고 생각한다. 내가 하고 싶은 말은, 성취감(보람)을 느낄 수 있는 것과 가끔 시간 때우기로 하기도 하는 일들과는 차이가 있다는 것이다."

 

There are things that we all generally would like to do more often like watching TV, listening to music, hanging out with friends and things like that. Now, as much as we enjoy doing those things, I just don't feel like they qualify as hobbies but rather ways of entertaining ourselves.  The way I see it, a hobby is or should be something that we can get better at over time like inline skating or performing magic tricks, or something that we can gain some sort of deeper knowledge or understanding of like, I don't know,  wine-tasting or reading literature.  My point is, there is a difference between things that we can find fulfillment in and things that we sometimes regard as time-killing activities.

우리가 이런 것들을 비록 많이 즐겨하지만 오락을 위한 것이지 취미로 보기에는 어렵다는 느낌이 든다.

• as much as (이런것들을 하는것이 즐거운만큼) 를 although (비록 이런것들을 하는것이 즐겁지만) 와 비슷한 개념으로 생각할 수 있다

• 앞에 내용보다 뒤에 내용을 강조 : 비록 ~~ 지만 --- 다 : 비록 그런것들을 즐겨하지만 ---라고 느끼지 않는다.

• A qualify as B : A가 B축에 속한다. A를 B라고 볼수 있다.판단할수 있다. 자격을 주다

My point is, there is a difference between things that we can find fulfillment in and things that we sometimes regard as time-killing activities.

• find fulfillment in something 무엇으로하여금 보람이나 성취감을 찾다 / 얻다.

• regard A as B    A를 B로 간주하다
