#. World Shows Gratitude to Medical Workers

In the United Kingdom, a special ritual is taking place at 8 p.m. every evening.

From various places around the country, loud sounds of clapping can be heard coming form doorsteps and balconies.

The organized applause is part of the "Clap for Cares" campaign, one of the ways that ordinary people are honoring medical professionals.

They want to show their gratitude to those working on the front line in the fight against the cornnavirus.

Similar campaigns have also taken place in other nations, including Italy and the Netherlands.

"We want to show our respect and say thank you to all the health care workers who are protecting us," King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands said in March.

Around the world doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals are putting themselves at risk in order to treat patients infected with the COVID-19 disease.

Television broadcasters regularly feature exhausted medical professionals as they work long hours and extra shifts.

Some of the hospitals have been overwhelmed by the growing number of cases.

Others have lacked proper medical gear, leading to the coronavirus infection rate among medical professionals to rise.

But despite the dangers, health care workers say they will continue to do what they can to heal the sick.

"I am just a normal person who loves his job," said one Italian doctor in training.

"I am proud to do this by giving all of myself."

Koreans are also finding ways to show their support for the nation's doctors and nurses.

In April, the government held a social media campaign called the "Because of You Challenge."

In the online challenge, people uploaded videos as they performed the words "respect" and "pride" in sign language.

The government will later edit these images into an extended video to show the nation's appreciation.
