New English words get introduced all the time.

Many of them are slang.

These are fun, informal words that young people often use.

Here are four American slang words that are commonly used these days.

 

  • She's my bae. 그녀는 나의 자기(최애)예요

Bae refers to someone or something you love.

Some say it stands for "Before Anyone Else" or "Before Anything Else."

Others say it short for "baby" or "babe."

 

  • I'm so hangry  저는 배고파서 화가나요

When people get hungry, the often get irritated.

Then, they can say they are hangry.

The slang combines two words, "hungry" and "angry." 

 

  • Did you spill the tea?  재미있는 소문 거리 좀 얘기했니?

Tea is a slang word for gossip.

When people spill the tea, they are sharing gossip.

If you want the latest gossip, you can also ask, "What's the tea?"

 

  • You are the GOAT.  당신은 역대급이네요

GOAT stands for "Greatest of All time."

It is used for people or things that are the best ever.

 

@ stands for 

  1. 나타내다, 상징하다 = represent   In Western culture the dove stands for peace.

  2. ~을 지지하다 = support    Before we elect her to Congress, we want to know what she stands for.

  3. 참다 = tolerate,endure   I won't stand for his insults any longer.

  4. 주장하다   I stand for freedom of speech for everyone.

 

@ irritate  ˈɪrɪteɪt

  1. The way she puts on that accent really irritates me.

  1. Some drugs can irritate the lining of the stomach.
