Neil Armstrong

Fifty years ago, an amazing event took place.

Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon.

Armstrong was born in the United States in 1930.

He studied space engineering at university and served in the U.S.Navy during the Korean War.

After the war, he joined NASA as a pilot.

In the 1960s, the United States and Russia were in a space race.

Russia had already sent an astronaut to space.

The United States wanted to be the first country to visit the moon.

In July 1969, NASA launched a rocket with three astronauts into space.

They were Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong.

Near the moon, Aldrin and Armstrong took a smaller spacecraft to the surface.

Then, Armstrong got out and stepped on the moon.

"That's on small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," he said.

After walking on the moon, Armstrong became a global hero.

He gave speeches about his experience.

He became a professor at a university.

Sadly, Armstrong passed away in 2012.

But he will always be remembered for his incredible achievement.
