In late October, the government announced some plans for innovation.
Among them, it proposed interesting changes to identification cards.
In short, the government is considering mobile ID cards for citizens.
People can download their ID cards on their smartphones and use them just like their physical cards.
The government said mobile ID cards would be convenient and safe.
People would not have to worry about losing their ID cards.
Moreover, digital ID cards would be less likely to be counterfeited.
The government announced plans to issue other official certificates online, as well.
These electronic documents would also be downloadable on smartphones.
Every year, about 900 million copies of certificates are printed.
The government aims to halve the number of paper documents by 2022.
This way, it is expected to save 3 trillion won.
