The hottest place on Earth is the Lut Desert in Iran.

The landscape is sandy, and temperatures reach 72 degrees Celsius.

On the whole, water is extremely scarce there.

Now, however, the Lut Desert features a new saltwater lake.

Surprisingly, this body of water is not man-made.

A saltwater river runs through the desert, and the banks of the river burst in late 2018.

Then, the river water flowed into a deep reservoir and formed the lake.

Currently, the lake is so large that it has waves.

It has attracted migratory birds and other animals, as well as tourists.

Scientists are not sure what will happen to the desert lake.

It could dry up in the desert heat, or expand if enough rain falls during the rainy season.

In other words, Mother Nature will decide the fate of this majestic lake.
