These days, a large number of students in elementary school are wearing makeup.
According to recent surveys, female students mostly begin wearing makeup from middle school, but an increasing number of students try makeup in late elementary school.
There are elementary schools that even allow these fifth- and sixth- graders to put on cosmetics, as long as they get their parents' permission.
However, some people think that elementary schools should not allow girls to put on makeup.
They say that makeup can harm the health of the students.
It can damage the children's skin, which is much more sensitive than that of adults.
Their skin will also absorb more of the unhealthy chemicals from the cosmetics.
Also, these people say that most young students put on makeup for the wrong reasons.
For example, they may do it because they feel peer pressure, or because they want to look older than their age.
So, schools should make sure that these students are wearing makeup when they are truly ready for it.
Other people, however, believe it is okay for elementary school students to wear makeup.
They say it is healthy for students to experiment with their looks and style when they are young.
Also, makeup can help them feel prettier and more confident.
Furthermore, these people say that these are now many cosmetic products for younger teenagers.
These products are less harmful to the skin of elementary school students.
Also, fifth-and sixth-graders only use a small amount of makeup, as an experiment.
So, their skin will not be damaged by their use of cosmetics.
